Another city tour in five hours...
Athens is a strange place. Greece has been high on my “Must see” places for sometime now. When I was traveling Europe in 97 I met another traveler who had just a small pack and had just come from sleeping on the beaches in Greece. I thought. “Now that’s sounds like an adventure I would like.” But Greece was nothing like I had imagined I guess some places may never be what we dream them to be..
I wasn’t impressed with Athens. Like Rome they have lots of wonderful history and I love all the ruins but in Athens they are way to tourist greedy. To get into the Parthenon it cost 12€ our hostel was only 10€ so I had to pass. Event at the next place they were charging 6€ but if you paid the 12€ to see the Parthenon it was included. So we walked and walked yes I have been walking a lot these days. Not much other exercise as I haven’t been dancing sense I left Barcelona on the 7th of November... (Whoa I just realized it will be just about a month of no dancing... Guess I needed a break because I really haven’t missed it too much.. Ok well a little... But that’s why I’m heading straight to Toulouse.)
Having seen and purched everything I could a ford to see and maybe some things I couldn’t afford (X-Mass presents) we headed for the airport..
Ok so Athens has two direct ways to get to the airport.. First there is a train for 5€ but it only leaves every half hour and takes 40 minutes..
For one of the first times traveling through Europe I was late.. Well we were late..
So I asked about the other way that was the metro well in the train station they didn’t know the schedule.. They should have as it was just about exactly the same.. Ok it was the same.. The Metro for the Airport was every half hour took 40 minutes and left at exactly the same time as the train... Now why do you think the two major transportation systems that end up using the same track when they reach a cretin point can’t set it up so that each goes on the 15 minute mark?
I think Athens needs a better transportation commision..
If there was dancing there I might apply for the position.. But sadly we did not find any Lindyhop in Greece...
